Default Windshield Wiper Leak

Hi Folks, new to this. I have 65 Coupe and I'm told with a well known water leak into the car. It appears the water is leaking through the seal for the windshield wiper and dripping onto the clutch pedal. The bodyshop told me the only way to fix it was to cut the body in this area and change the seal and reweld it back in. There'sgot to be a better way, anybodyknow? Thanks

Sounds like a cowl leak insted of a wiper. You can pour water thru the grills and see if it drips, if so, I would guess its the cowl. The wiper shafts are uphill and unless you are at speed, they should not leak. Also on the passanger side, open the vent and try to look up at the hat, you may want to stick your hand up their and feel for any rust. If so, than thats a bad but very common issue. Heres one that I opened up a little to check. When Ford built these cars, they didn't paint these areas, leaving us to fix them 40 years later.

Thanks Evil Eleanor for the tip, I will check with the water hose first. It still looks like cutting it open to solve the problem.

If it turns out to be just the wiper arm posts, the seal is on the backside where the pivots connect to the linkage. Hard and time consuming to get to but the seals are readily available from any of the vendors. Three small bolts hold each wiper pivotto the cowl underside.

I just removed the wiper assembly from my 67 and was curious about this too. Unless the metal is very damaged, I dont see why you would need to cut out the metal?

Hi Folks, did the check with the water hose and yes it leaks. I was wondering it the repair kit available with the two inserts is worth giving a try first and how how difficult is it? Thanks

If you are leaking through your cowl make sure you check your floor pans for damage too. Usually, with the carpets help, they end up being the collecting point for the water leaking through the cowl. Cowl damage usually goes hand in hand with floor pan rust.
