CAREFUL!
the 1964 1/2 have different steering wheels than the 65 models
They are NOT interchangeable.

Pulling and installing is a 1 of 5 star job. I have a puller which you can get from autozone or anywhere for $20, but I did not even need it. Wheel slid off like butter. Some can be a little sticky though.

Look in the FAQ or on the Mustang Monthly site. They did a restoration of a steering wheel that doesn't seem too hard if you have patience and bare minimum skills. Restore what you've got and learn something at the same time.

Kalli,I thought the 64 1/2 and 65 were technically the same model year. Why would the steering wheel be different? (I know there's a difference between the generator and alternator cars in the 65 66 time frame)

alt and gen difference is between 64 1/2 and 65.
my horns did not work and I replaced about everything but the steering wheel to get it sorted, that's how I learned.
The 64 1/2 have a horn relay under the bonnet (sorry, hood) and the contact is a spring that goes into the 64 1/2 steering wheel.
you can't fit that in the 65 steering wheels.

here are pictures of the parts you won't find in any 65 car:
the horn spring:

65 steering wheel looks like this:

and my 64 steering like that:

(the circular hole in the bottom is where this horn spring goes)

maybe you get the whole thing going if you buy a 65 steering wheel with horn ring and all parts and redo your cabling.
But i'm not sure on that. Some mustang part houses say that they're not interchangable as well
