Default Side Scoops

Do you have to drill a hole into the side of the car to put side scoops on? Or do you just have a bracket the gets put in the holes?

i have em for my 67 haven't put em on yet but they're apparently held on with a bolt... i'm kinda wary about drilling into the car but.. anything is better than the 2 crap looking "fake" scallop things on the side.

you can either pop rivet them on or use panel bonding adhesive

The aftermarket scoops have studs bonded to them. You must drill a hole in the side of your quarter panel to mount the scoop. As I was doing mine I found that their bonding agent sucked and the stud popped right off the back of the scoop. I went to Lowes and got some new 2 part epoxy and even added a stud making it a total of two per scoop. I had to do the addition because the scoop did not conform to the quarter panel and I actually had to suck the back of the scoop into the panel. You also have to fit the scoops to the car.

Please note... It depends on which scoops you bought! There are functional and non-functional side scoops. Yes I'm assuming you are talking about the lower side scoops. The non-functional scoops bolt. I've seen some that didn't have the studs bonded on in which case you'd have to bond them to the car. If you ordered the functional scoops (like I did) then yes you do need to cut a hole as they have a 'port' that goes through the body panel for the 'duct works'.

I have the 67 lower functional side scoops from Branda Performance. I'd take a picture for you however they are over at the garage right now.

Hope this answers your question.

Check out this site for bonding agents. Dyna-Weld is a good product for what you are doing.

I'm not getting them since I would have to drill into the body. Im either getting new leaf springs or a new carb setup.

You could buy the non-functional scoops and simply bond them to the car.See VF's post above for the bonding agents.

I saw it. Not sure about that either. I'm not getting the car painted for about another 2 years.

I used the bond on style......used a few dabs of 5-minute epoxy to hold them in place and then fiberglassed and bondo aroudn them....looks pretty good. I saw a '65 coupe a couple of weeks ago that had a GT350 hood scoop bonded on, the rear quarter extentions bonded on and the rear lower valance bonded on. Looks smooth and slick....then I looked at his side scoops...they were bolt on's and didnt line up real well.....detracted from the over all looks of the car. If you get the side scoops, get the bond on style, you'll be happier in the long run.
