there has been a posting already about that.
Maybe we can move that to the FAQ:

I suggest connecting it to the small post on the starter soleniod that is on only when the ignition key is turned on. There are two small posts. The other small post is only on when you turn the key to start. Do not connect it to the large posts.

the stud on the alternator and coil don't produce a full 12 volts people told me when doing mine. I ran mine to the switched power on my windshield wiper motor. It was closest and most accessible for me, since I have a removable cowl panel.

it;s supposed to run from the post on alternator.
I don't know why this one would not supply 12V, doesn't make much sense to me.,
Best idea is probably to measure the voltage on the alt stud where it's supposed to connect to.
Connecting it to the alt has the huge advantage that the thing only runs when the erngine is running, not when you turn on ignition.

True, the alternator post would be a good place. I checked my soleniod post and they are all afull 12v when on. Not sure why it would not be.

+1 on the alt, that way it's only got heat when the alt is turning. As long as it has 0 volts when the engine is off and continuous 12v when running, you're fine.
