Default electric fuel pump ?

i installed my electric fuel pump maybe 5 months ago?

it was noisy for the whole time, and today i go to turn my key and this time no noise at all. i check the conections and everything looks good. i drive around a bit and the car didnt shut off so its getting fuel. is it common for pumps to do things like this? noisy all the time to no noise at all?

its a house name pump from summit (made by holley i think).

i have it mounted right in front of the gas tank (around where the fuel line connects to the tank)

I bought one of those from Summit. It looks all but identical to a Holley. The one we bought did not last very long (4 or 5 mos) until the electric motor on the pump totally fried! I did a "post-mortem" on the pump and armature was melted in places with pieces of what looked like welding splatter all over.

We bought a real Holley for a replacement. In comparing the two, there were mild differences mostly on the motor part of the pump. Upon installation the Holley pump was quite a bit more quiet than the summit pump had been. This pump has been in place for over a year without issue.

I want to say that the Summit pump got quiet right before it stoped working.....

Another brand to consider is Barry Grant. I know my drag race and street rod guys love them. Jegs carries them, but Summit does not. There are a few options. One is continuous use with a return at the carb. One is a continuous use with a return at the pump and a pressure regulator. I went with the pump return and regulator so I have less new hose to pull. Those things like 8 or 10AN hose, so keep that in mind too if you have not already changed out the old fuel line.
