Default Advice on Repair

What can you guys recommend to repair this. On both sides of the engine bay, there are bad rust spots where the aprons front and rear aprons overlap the shock tower section....only on top. The battery apron on the other side is severely damaged and I am planning to replace it, but really am afraid to try to replace them all. At any rate the rest of them are solid except for these small spots where they overlap. Is there a possibility of patching these rust spots at the overlaps?

Sorry....I'm not seeing any bad rust spots there. I see a little surface discoloration and a lot of 40 yr old dirt. Maybe I'm not looking in the right spot...can you circle what you think the problem is?

Grind/sand it down to metal/smooth and paint it.

The top piece is rusted through in about a 1 inch circle at the point the two aprons overlap.

There is a square hole at the top of the aprons where a capture nut clips into it that the fender then bolts to. From the picture I assumed it was the rusty remnants of the old caltured nut still clipped in place

So these places where the two aprons are spot welded together are supposed to have holes in them? I knew about the wholes with the clips used to bolt on the fender. Is that what you are talking about?

In the second attachment I circled the spots.

I must be the only one who can see the rust spots. It looks lke its rusting underneath the two panels. You won't be able to stop it unless you cut it out because it's actually rusting between the panels. I would cut the area out in a small square and weld a small patch piece in grinding it smooth. Thats just my thought

Yeah, I was hoping to be able to patch it without completely replacing all the apron sections. Since I'm going to replace the battery apron anyway. I may experiment with it first, and try to patch it.

I appreciate the advice.

If anyone has had this problem, let me know how you fixed it.

If you want to keep the seam you will have to make to patches per rust spot. would just make it smooth it was mine.
