Exhaust on 66 A code
I have got to ask...is it possible that the hanger plate you refer to was standard on all cars but that no actaul hanger was used on the cars w/o the dual option?
Let us know what you find.
Have not had a chance to check the hanger yet (car in storage) but have a definitive answer on the A code dual question overall. Charles Turner (MCA Gold Judge) said that ALL non-GT or non K code cars came with single exhaust including all A code cars. In fact, he said that it is VERY rare that any non-GT car came with duals. It was not an option but a few folks who knew someone at the factory had it done. One of the best ways to determine if you have a GT is by that exhaust hanger. So, in my case, I have a 66 vert non-GT with a single exhaust. The previous owner of 24 years said he never changed the exhaust. I am confident that the single is correct....I will seal the deal when I check for the hanger.
Learned a lot here. I really thought that an A code car came standard with duals...not the case.

Here is the exact input from Mr Turner.... and a pic of a concourse car with the exhaust plate that Oxnard mentions...this is from the underside of the car.
Dual exhaust was not a regular production option on a 65/66. You got it automatically by ordering a K code or an A code GT. There's a fella in CA who claims he ordered a '65 with duals that was an A code, non-GT... but it came out that he pulled a few strings to make this happen. It most definitely was not the norm. The snubber plate underneath the car is unique for all 65/66 dual exhaust cars (actually just a carry-over piece from K codes.)
