Default Ford Manuals

I am looking to get a couple of good manuals for restoring my 64.5 convertible but am unsure of which ones to get.

I found this one http://www.themotorbookstore.com/1603710019.html that cover the falcon, comet and has a supplement for the 64.5 mustang, but I also found this one http://www.themotorbookstore.com/19fomufashma.html that covers the 65 and also has the parts list supplement.

I know that there are some small differences between the 64.5 and 65, but are they enough to go for the book that just has the supplement? And is there a better place for a better price of the books. I like the ones on CD so that I can print them off and get them all nasty and not feel to bad about it. Also the ability to search the whole CD quickly is always a plus.

Also any other recommendations on other books that would be good to have are always welcomed. I know that there isn't one book that has all the answers out there... Or is there.

You can get the CD version of the 65 shop manual from CJ Pony for a better price.

There are 2 books you should have to get started. The first it the original (or copy) 64 Shop Manual (ebay auction) and How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines by Tom Monroe (another ebay auction). Both of these are pretty much considered the bible on their topics. Make sure you have these both in book form! CD publications are great while at the PC in the evening, however having an actual book in front of you in the shop will make your life easier by far. So get the real paper books first then if you'd like to CD get them afterwards.
There are also many additional manuals available dealing with wiring, vacuum, chassis/body/interior assembly, etc. eBay really is your friend when it comes to this type of stuff. Check this link out for '64 mustang manual'. Good luck!

got a 64 1/2 myself. this manual is a must:
http://www.amazon.com/Mustang-Falcon...15&sr=8-16

(you might get it cheaper via eBay and such)

it's the shop manual for 64 models on a CD-Rom. The beauty is that you can print the pages you need. Then mess them up while repairing and print them again when needed. if you don#'t have a printer, try to get the paperback version.,

So as everyone says: get the shop manual. it explains about everything

Kalli,

Thanks for the input. Does this manual cover everything on the car? I am concerned that I am going to get a 64.5 manual that doesn't give me all the info that I need and cover the other cars in much more detail. Should I get the year specific? or could I get one that covers a 65 and still be okay?

i can't tell for the 65 manuals as I have the 64 manual myself but it's quite good (600+pages of great info).
I just checked on charging system and horns. all the infio there is 64 specific, which I believe the 65 manual wouldn't be.
So basicallty it contains wiring diagrams of a mustang with generator as opposed to alternator. It's got the horn relay and everything.
So you're probably better off with this one

Second recommendation for the Jim Osbourne reproductions of the original assembly manuals. They have great schematics as well as a nice procedure for installing and adjusting the windows. Add to that a factory service manual and you'll be covered for most tasks. Internet searches should help you with anything else.

Good luck!
