65 302V8 Battery Question
When I drive the mustang up to the gas station which is a few miles away, I turn off the car and fill it up. When I go to turn the ignition, it seems that the batter does not have enough juice to turn the engine. I didnt know if its possibly the type of battery I have or if I need a Heavier Duty Battery?
Thanks!
Thanks!
The Battery may be weak.
The Engine timing may be off.
The Alternator may be bad.
The Connections may be corroded.
The Fan Belt may be loose.
All these things and more are possible.
Your best bet, unless you want to tackle it yourself, is to take and have it checked because it's all pretty straight forward.

What s the best way to time the engine. just a question, with a dwell meter? and make sure the needle is where it needs to be once you take the intake line off the distrubutor?
but, I was guessing getting a stronger tougher battery.

I have a similar problem with my '66, also with a 302.Mine will crank very irregularly, like a very high compression motor. It always starts though. Ithought it may be heat from the exhaust too close to the starter, ( no headers, just hipo manifold and an "H" pipe with dual flowmaster 40's). I put a protective sleeve on my starter, which helped a little, but was told it was either a crappy repo starter or, I may need one of those high torque (mini)starters. It works ok though, so i won't mess with it for now. This happens to me after driving a while, and restarting,in the summer months.
