Bigger Pistons
I am trying to put some bigger pistons in my 6 cylinder, until my V8 gets rebuilt. I really don't know anything about pistons, so I can't find some new pistons (to add horsepower) because I don't know what will fit and what all these numbers mean. So anyone out there that can help, please do. I have copied this from a website, if you could just explain so of the basics to me I would greatly appreciate it.

Cast-aluminum piston for 1963-1980 200 and 250 L6 engines. Piston with 2.25" diameter head recess 0.093" deep. .030" oversize.

thanks again.

You cant use oversized pistons unless they fit the oversized block you would have to have. There is no real gain, save for maybe 2 - 3 hp in going with a .030 set of pistons, so its not worth doing just to get the hp gains, since it would require a complete rebuild to do. The only thing you could do without machine work with pistons is get a set of higher compression pistons. Again, on an otherwise stock motor you wont see much difference, maybe 10 hp if you go a full point higher. Not worth a complete rebuild.

uh oh..your not taking advise from MD are ya?*L* just put in a 300 six...you'll be pulling stumps in no time there is lil hp to gain with oversizing...you would do better in shaving the head and putting bigger rockers on the ole 6 any finding a nice 2 bbl carb with a header still you might pick up 25hp or so
