Default Heater hose replacement

I have a 66 289----I want to replace the heater hose.

Do I need to remove the heater core to get the hoses on or can it be done with the core in place?
What size diameter hose is it?
Do they come pre cut to lenght ? If not should 4 ft a piecebe about enough for the in and return hose?
Do you think a local ford dealer still carries this (black hose with the white stripe)
I know a local auto chain store will have hose, but do you think they will have "ford " hose with the white stripe?

I recommend pulling the heater box and not only changing the hoses but also the core itself. The cores are cheap at Autozone and are good insurance to insure no future leaks. Unless you are doing a concours restoration, solid black hoses will work and look fine. You can buy them there too.

best way is to drop the box.. I did my 66 about a year ago and there just is no real easy way to get to them without risking damaging something

Concur with the others. But if there's a will......
The clamps are between the heater box and the firewall so they're really hard to get at. You may want to buy ten feet of hose justso you don't get to the end and you're two inches short.
