AODe is the first of the electronic overdrive trannys. The orginal AOD was all hydraulic with a TV cable.

I've always heard to stay away from Aod's. Should/can aode's be beefed up for a 450hp application?

Go one step further. The 4R70W is a much improved version of the AODE.
AODEs are much more scarce anyway. In Mustangs they were only offered in 1994 and 1995
96 up 3.8 liter cars had the 4R70Ws that will bolt to a Windsor.

Stock is just that, stock. Now the question was can you beef up an AODe, yes. Why spend the money on an AODe and not an AOD? I'll never understand the myth that an AOD will not handle power. A stock AOD is rated at 450 HP, changing the input shaft and adjusting the TV cable properly and you can get lots of life out of oneover 450HP.Mine has stood up to all my abuse and still going strong.
