Default Emergency Flywheel Help Needed!!!!!

I put this post in General Tech and although I know it is taboo to repeat posts, someone suggested this might be the better spot for the question.

I have just run across my first 160 tooth flywheel in a 1965 Mustang with a 289. The old flywheel is junk and there does not seem to be anyone making a replacement. The 164t I have does not fit inside the original bell and is definitely not right.

Does anyone know who makes a replacement?

I have read that the 157t/28oz is interchangable with the old 160t, but I don't want to buy another problem. Can I swap in the 157t. Will I need a new starter if I do?

Some expert advice would be appreciated! Car is holding up the rack and tempers are flaring.

Thanks!

Default RE: Emergency Flywheel Help Needed!!!!!

i had a problem with my flywheel for a long time. so retard replaced my original, before i got it, with one that is smaller.........and the mechanics charged me three times, to pull everything out, and put the gear on the other side,.........etc,....i replaced my starter (lifetime guarantee) 9 times, before tearing everything down myself, and i ended up putting in a different flywheel............. nearest i can figure, is that mine "original" flywheel, was off of a 1963, and even though it took the exact same new ring gear,.......it was just the slightest bit smaller, and different. if you look on ebay, you can find flywheels,..........just make sure you are getting the correct part number'ed one,..............so you know what you are getting. now my starter is working great,...........and i have less in it then having those other mechanics mess with it again. they were not ford nuts, so they didnt notice the part numbers, etc,..........since it was on my car, which is "all original", they didnt think to do any research,........and i, in their minds,........had pockets full of $$, to keep switching and replacing it.
hope that helps!
