Default Starter problems

Well, the son took the '65 coupe for its longest drive today....35 miles all the way upto Corpus Christi. Along the way he got lost once, hit the deepest pot hole in the state of Texas (his words) and stalled the car out. THEN the starter froze and wouldnt turnover. (chuckles) He called and was in a snit...had to calm him down while I ate dinner and tell him to put it in 4th gear and rock the car back and forth to break the starter loose. It worked and he was able to get it started and upto Corpus ok after that. Of course being the great Dad that I am, I drove up to meet him and see if everything was OK, it was...the car started again and drove home with out a single problem. So looks like tomorrow I am going under the car and pulling the starter and seeing what can be done with it. I dont thinck anything really bad, maybe just a good cleaning and lube job.

I used to rebuild starters, we never lubed them. (Unless you're talking the bendix) Make sure the armature/stator areclean, the brushes are good, the bushings aren't worn out, and of course, the bendix and lever move freely.
