Default Convertible Top Installation SNAFU

I noticed that when my top was installed (before I first saw or bought the car) that the 2nd and 3rd bows were not attached to the vinyl top by using the 'bow listings' that are part of the vinyl top. There's a 'bow listing'that's supposed to be attached to the 2nd & 3rd bows using a 'listing retainer' and screws. The listings are not lining up with the bows when the top is up. So, if I attach these listings now do you think it will rip out /tear the listings or the vinyl top itself?? Or is there an adjustment that can be made to line up thelistings with the bows??
