Any suggestions...
First off thanks for all the help so far.. Here's what I have right now.. I found a 351 with a three speed... Don't really feel like running all the clutch junk.. Think I'll stay auto.. I also have two diffrent 5.0 drivetrains at my dispossal.. So, a stock AOD wont handle more than 400 hp? I dont think I'm gonna hit that mark with the 5.0.. Not yet.. So what parts do I need to collect to keep the EFI.. And if I decide to go the other way, any good suggestions for a good intake and carb set-up.. Also I'm hearing I need a new crossmember for the AOD trans. Any good mustang part sites out there?? Thanks again guys.. The responses have been very helpful, Alot less arogance then my old charger club.. So far I'm glad I made the switch.. Now lets see how the car turns out.. P.S. Any thoughts on how well these 5.0's handle a shot of Nitrous?? I just don't see a stock 5.0 taking downany of my old 440 friends... Got to find some extra Hp's somewhere...
National Parts depot has AOD converson stuff.
Check the link below. I'm not specifically recommending this company but you can get a good idea of conversion parts needed and tranny mods available.

if your gonna use an aod i suggest turning it over to a good trans shop to fix its weak points. the aod has ahard time with a stock 5 liter. and will only get worse when you throw some power at it. ive heard that the ho 302 87 to 90 i might be wrong on the cut off year, had forged pistons, after that they had the hypers. so i would think you could throw a 150 shot at it for a while and hold up. the biggest downfall to the 5 liter is its heads and intake. they are very restrictive. a good set of heads, cam and intake and it will come alive real quick. 44os are known for extreme torque so your gonna have to make sure the car hooks up, or its gonna be over real quick. i think with a properly set up 306 with a nice 2500 stall converter, gears. and some traction aides, you should be able to knock off a 440. i drove a 440 4spd charger once and wasnt all that impressed by it.
I ran 12.6's all day long with a mild 5.0 in an 89 mustang with a better then stock AOD. That same motor just went 11.80 with a 150shot of NOS. Heads, intake and cam. The bottom end is still stock. You can get a lot of power out of 302's, so much that the car is the week point. To really get the most out of the motor you'll need to update the suspension.
