i thought all 64 1/2 mustangs were titled as a 65, but the one i just bought, is titled as a 64, in the state of illinois! hopefully they wont catch it in my state,....indiana? numbers match, kind of weird! kind of cool!
it is a very early 64 1/2, made in the first 35000 cars rolling off the line, may 15th of 64.
not many options, but it's a convertible!!

Just curious, why do you say you hope they wont catch it in Indiana? How will it affect anything?
EDIT: I just read your thing about seatbelts in another thread. I assume that is what you are talking about. I can't really imagine driving around here with no seatbelt. But I guess Indiana is probably a world away from this place.

Thats nothing new a lot of states mis title cars wrong years. And by the way ford didn't do numbers matching on a mustang tell the fox body or later.Numbers matching means the full vin is stamped on the engine and tranny the gt and drag package cars had a half vin on theres tho.

So you are saying if I put a 1968 289 in a 1965 car it doesn't matter because it can't be a numbers matching car? I think not! There people that get so picky about this stuff that they match up the date code stamps on the body panels. I would say it's not just about the VIN on the block it is more than that. You are correct that they didn't put the VIN's on the blocks of the early cars except for the hypo's.

The casting numbers are the only way to tell but that gives you a date the engine was made just because the car and engine both are the same year really don't mean it came with that engine.Matching numbers is a gm thing they stamped the cars vin on the engine and tranny for a long time.

There is some people that make a distinction between "numbers matching" and "date code correct". To me it is just semantics. Date code correct is numbers matching for early cars. That is just my opinion.
There is the build date stamped on the engine on the front, near the distributor.
For example my 66 engine was actually assembled on 6E5L, May 5, 1966.
Don't know what the L is for.
As far as the title, well the DMV. Bidness as usuall. My car also has wrong info on the title.
