427 "Cammer"
I was at the World of Wheels car show yesterday, forgot to take some pictures but there were some real nice mustangs; few Mach I, Shelby's... One thing that interested me was they had a ford big block inclosed in a plexiglass box. It said it was a 427 Cammer and it had never been started. I assumed it had to be something pretty special so i was just woundering if anyone knows what the deal is with this

RE: 427 "Cammer"
IMHO, the holy grail of Ford motors. Actually, it was a 427 FE motor fitted with huge single overhead cam heads driven by a timing chain that was about sevenfeet long.It wasFord's answer to the Chrysler Hemi and was designed to rev high for Nascar super speedway use. The engine was outlawed byNascar and thenshowed up in drag racing for a while. Here is some good reading.http://ford400.100webcustomers.com/v8sohc427.html

Its a BAD BAD BOY. I would love to have one. I'm guessing its around 650+ HP at 5 or 6 MPG.

We were cruising through All-Ford Nationals in Carlisle a couple of years ago and in the for sale lot, we passed this early 60's sedan in ok shape with $25,000 painted on the windshield. WOW, this guy needs a reality check is what whe thought, Until we passed buy the open engine bay with the SOHC under the hood. That was a GREAT deal for the car, heck, that probably a great deal for one of those engines.
Check out this picture with the cast iron headers glowing!! BAD bad boy!!
