alright guys finally made it out to the track with the 67. horrible. i was embarassed.
the best time of the night was
14.894 @ 92.33 mph
with a 2.3 60' time ON DRAG SLICKS. the car was falling on it's face off the line, it just bogged then took off pulled slowly up around 5000 but barked the 1-2 shift and tried to on the 2-3. i was launching around 2200 rpm's - there was no slippage off the line. the car just.. dies then wakes up - horrible. this car should be well in the 13's with everything i have done to it, but is the 3.08 REALLY holding it back THAT much? i'm getting 3.73's in the rear this week, but surely.. that's not going to split off almost a second from the time now is it? i thoughti t might be getting too little fuel so i jetted up again from 60's to 64's nope. same. gave it a little timing and gained 1mph and that was that. :| i hate this car

I would check vacuum to start with. My 65 with 3.00 rear ran a 15.8, change the to a 3.80 lsd and it ran a 15.8. Speeds were 93 and 88 respectively. Quicker off the line with the 3.80's but the 3.00's were chaser down gears. Found the vac was way low, old tired engine. Good luck with it, never hate the car, just make it better, that's what makes it fun
Haha, yeah, reality sucks! Don't feel bad though, pretty much everyone = fail their first time out, and it takes time to get used to the car and get launching down etc. Race tracks and big red rollers generally hurt your feelings the first time you use them.
First of all if you're launching on slicks you should be launching a lot higher than 2,200rpm. I can launch my car at 2,500rpm almost dumping the clutch and still have traction, on street tires. With slicks you should be launching more like 4-5k rpm. But the tall gearing ain't gonna help, especially on slicks, it'll make it hard to not bog and may require you to really give it the r's when you launch to keep power up, and possibly slip the clutch a little.
What all is the setup you ran with? A 92mph trap speed is going to make it hard to get mid 13's, even with slicks. Were you shifting slow/early or are you out of tune?

my gt40p heads, 268h cam, performer rpm 600 cfm carb tri y's etc etc. pulls good vac, 20 hg or so then dips down as you haul *** like it should, motor was just freshened up with new pistons, rods etc. so it's fine on that end. i think the carb is just a big pos and it's not allowing anything. i WAS under the impression i might of used too short of pushrods which arent opening the valves all the way but whatever. the car just doesn't "take off" and scream until at least 2500+ which is ridiculous. i've been racing for almost 10 years and this just blows.
i wish i could drop the clutch but i don't have one
i only have a 2800 stall and it's starting to pull off the line at around 22-2300

Well, the cam and heads aren't spectacular, so there ain't gonna be a ton of power. But with those gears and slicks, that stall ain't helping. If it had a bunch of bottom end torque it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but 302's are far from being big blocks in the low rpm torque dept. The gears should help though. Track only car? Could try running a bigger stall too.
just a question, and it dont mean to sound like a jerk, but are you sure it wasnt just cuz it was your first time?
Usually people suck hardcore their first time driving a car on the strip for the first time, even if they are seasoned racers. I would look into a few things, be sure everything is tuned right, and then get some practice... just a thought.
Also, were you flooring it right away? I have heard it is much better to ease into the throttle so it will not bog.

Well, the tall gears definitely aren't helping. A 2200rpm launch on drag slicks is sure to bog the engine with those gears, and that XE268H doesn't makesignificant power until 2k, and doesn't really come on until 3k.

IMO the gears are killing you, these gear combined with the slicks mean you can't even spin your way into the powerband.... Slicks + 3.00 gears + your setup= death at the line and beyond. I think you would have gotten beter times on street tires. (at least you would have been less embareassed on street tires...

)
IMO we are talking total mismatch between the engine-tranny setup and your final gearing. (how fast are you moving at 3,000 RPM in first gear?)
You are going to have to work your setup some, and do some tuneingbefore you even have the right to be discouraged.....
I think that you have the car setup to fail, you cant blame the car man! 3,000 pound car with 420+ HP? You should be doing better, but you can't just "wish it better"........
The 2,800 stall is for sure not too low for your engine setup, you need gears...we use 4.10s on the 66, I like um... a 25% increase in leverage is huge...
