You can't compare a fox body to a classic.....The same motor/trans combo will act different in both cars.

I was dissapointed when I put the same combo in my classic that I had in my fox....That's why you need to step up your program.

Fox's had a factory 4 link rear suspension. Classics are crappy leaf springs if it's still stock. Plus Fox's have a shorter wheelbase, so weight transfer is better.

You can go plenty fast on the stock style leaf spring setup.

"falling flat"

I'm afraid there isn't enough details here to actually help without going way out on assumption pier.....

Aren't you running a basically an exploder 302 with the gt40 with an intake swap & carb?

What cam do you have in it?

If it's 'falling on its face" that is usually too much gas not too little. Unless you cammed it up and don't have an operating RPM that starts until 3500 you should be running just fine out of the hole. Pull your plugs and look at them I think you are over gassing it. Do you have all your time slips...can you post up the full slip.

What did you set your total timing at?
Did you try an idle start in the hopes of flashing the converter?
What RPM did you cross the line at?

Leaf springs work fine, I was just pointing out for comparison's sake that the Fox's have better suspension for drag racing which is why it's not fair to compare one to a Classic.

no, i have a performer rpm intake manifold with a holley 600cfm on top. 62's in the front 70's in the rear. ran faster with 60's in the front. had a blue pump cam in the #2 hole. found out today that it was giving me too much tip in and drowning it. put the red cam in and put it on #1 it takes off now. plugs are slightly brown and looking good. total timing is in the neighborhood of 34 deg @ 2500rpm - not running an 'explorer 302'

bored 289 w/ flat tops - p heads, slightly ported, gasket matched performer rpm, the holley 600, tri y headers, comp XE268H

224/230 @ .50 .509/.512 lift (heads level off around .500) roller tip rockers, springs etc.

was launching out of the hole at like i said 2000-2200 - the tires must have been the main problem because on the street with the street tires you can launch it ,and it spins enough to keep the rpms up, it was grabbing last night so it just bogged it but it took off once it got going somewhat. has a hard time getting up over 3000 rpms but once its over it, it moves.

i'm considering after the 3.73 swap to just ditch the P's and the Performer RPM and have a set of 185cc heads made with 58cc combustion chamers (i get deals on heads) so cost isn't an issue, and maybe swapping to an xcelerator intake manifold and just having comp cams grind me a custom cam and call it a day. tbh i'm looking for comfortable mid 13 second passes while still getting at least 8-10 mpg

as i said, i swapped the pump cam out today and it works a lot better then the blue one, the car honestly feels like it's running 1/2 of it's power, so.. i don't know.
