Default What's in a VIN?

Hello all,
Ipurchased a 1973 Mustang convertible on Ebay that turns out to be a real rust bucket. My fault for not checking into more thoroughly. The car for me is a keeper, even if. I have an opportunity to purchase a 73 convert roller for a decent price. I want to use the roller's frame and some sheet metal. Can I stilluse my car's VIN?
Many thanks,
ceswert
