Default 66 coupe rear valance and battery location

I have a friend with a 66 coupe he bought last year. Looks like it went through a full restoration. The battery has been moved to the trunk and he wants to move it back to the engine compartment. Why would it have been moved and is moving it back a big deal? Also the only thing on the car which does not fit well is the rear valance. It sits out from the body and there is like a quarter inch gap between it and the quarters. I did not get under it to look at anything. Could it just be a bad repro part? The car is white so it would not be a great tragedy to replace it or reform it. Paint should match OK.

Most put the battery in the trunk for two reasons save room in the engine bay or more weight in the back better traction. The rear valance shouldn't stick out like that you might have to do some work on it to fit right.
