Default started my floorboard project

bought this ole 65 coupe a week or so ago and drove it to work a few times, took the wife out to the a&w drive in for a burger and now i am starting the floorpan replacements

the car isnt in bad condition just needs a few panels worked on, first i'm doing the front floorboards then on to door hinge work thenthe rear quarters, the drivers rear is the worst of the 2

yesterday i called mustangs unlimited and ordered the 2 front pans, the toe board for the driver side, 3M seam sealer, hinge pin kits, and some front end parts

here are some pics....

Awesome looking. I like that color. Good luck on the pans!

P.S. I gotta ask...out of the thousands of people who have signed up for this board, how in the world did you join 03/31/2008 (a few days ago) and get the name 65mustang?!? It wasn't taken?? Weird...

Typical floor pan rust. Car looks good, get those rusty areas fixed up and your good to go.

Nice car. What's wrong with the quarters that you're going to work on? In the picture the one showing looks OK.

i was suprised when it took the 65mustang name, first i tried 65stang figuring it would work and that was already taken so i tried 65mustang and it took....strange huh

will have more pics soon of getting the floorpans out and the new ones in, they should arrive any day now, i did a 55 chevy that i used to own, did a 57 hardtopand helped friends do thiersso i'm not a novice but no professional either by any means

the rear quarter on the driver side is rough, wont really know what it needs until i strip it to bare metal and get a look at whats really there

the passenger rear quarter has some bubbling but nothing compared to the driver side

only has one small spot n the trunk

and the doors are in decent shape, may only have a few patches to do on those

here is a pic of the rest of the driver quarter panel, it has rust popping all the way around the wheelwell and just in front of it also, i'm afraid that paint (as you guys know)is hideing an abundance of work but thats another thread on repair in the future

may do a complete quarter depending on how bad it is, i noticed the vent area of the quarter has the holes bondo'd up where the chrome vent trim used to be, i'm assuming thats what happened anyway

we used to have a 64 1/2 about 17 years ago that was in real bad shape and we sold it to an old man that restored it, wish i had kept that car, it was the same faded blue looking car as we have now, kind of a flash back in time

the car runs and drives but the motor has low oil pressure when it's warmed up so i got a high volume pump, main bearings and rod bearings for it and will be doing that soon also

it originally came with a 289 but the guy i bought it from said ithas a 302 now, it's a stock 2 barrell motor that due to gas prices is probably going to stay that way but get some chrome and paint

here in the smoky mountains in pigeon forge there are car shows all summer long so i plan to keep it in drivable condition to attend the shows just cruising and having fun, by no means trying to "show" the car and do repairs toita panel at a time (thats the plan anyway) i'm 44 years old and have a heavy work schedual at harley so i dont want to tear it apart completely and never have time to put it back together, i want to still enjoy driving it to keep the juices flowing of restoring it, sometimes life gets in the way of finishing the job

i read that thread of the fastback getting done for prom and my hats off to that man!!! damn gorgeous car!! i probably wouldnt have had the time to finish that car

(i tried to do this in one post but it said file to large?)

Congrats....looks like you are starting with a car that's in pretty good shape. I wish I could have gotten started replacing panels right away. I bought it and then realized just how few tools I had....I've been spending my money buy tools instead of car parts.

Good luck and keep us posted.
