Ah, all the old ones were pretty much junk except for the brakes, and those were sold before they came off. the old spring rate wase 620, cut down a little for ride height.Gonna keep the old column, and just add a u joint to it. Some more of those picks once they come in.
thanx for the compliments Mustang289. We've gotten so busy lately it's hard to put picks up. Nice to know people look and enjoy though.

hey guys if they're still on the floor can you tell me the thickness of those springs and how many coils in them...just doing a little backyard calc on my front springs and trying for a guesstimate of what rate they might be.

You should do a little testing maybe a skidpad or slalom test that set up and a stock mustang set up.

We were thinking the same thing. Have a customer we did some suspension for. 720 up front with sway bar and A-arm drop, lowered in rear with a rear swway bar. Thing handles great. Was thinking skidpad myself. But only thin is this car doesn't have a front sway bar, but should be interesting either way.
Aussie, I will find those springs. Rich has them set aside for a customer.

we did weigh all the old parts last night and it came to 155lbs with all the suspension and everything else I cut off minus the brakes.:nice:

and the new K-member weighs a heafty 19lbs

progress pics......
Remove the stock crossmember and bolt up the k-member to the frame using the second hole in from the back to line up the k-member. we put in inserts into the frame so the frame doesn't bend when attaching the k-member in.

drill, insert, tack weld or weld.

assembly of the a arms, struts

tighten with a torque wrench to 65lbs and blue lock-tite

the strut retainer rounded off -- just for precautionary measures. In one install We have heard one hit the coil spring.

the aje kit laid out prior to install

k-member installed

bolted up to the inserts

more pics to come tonight!

Man, looking back, I can't spell. These long hours aren't helping with my laziness to correct grammar. Haha. The coil spring were .700 thick including a thin coat of paint as bought. It had 8.25 wraps in it including the flat side for the cup up top and stands 12.75in tall and are untrimmed.(they are for a 66, they don't need to be trimmed like the springs for the correct year.)

thanks fellas. that will give me a good starting point.
i'm going to assume that spring steel is spring steel for this exercise and just work from the thickness and number of coils to get a feel if mine are lighter, heavier or somewhere near the same.

Default AJE

Stevetra
sorry, most of the good parts that I took off I had already sold before I took them off.

Aussie66Fastback
the spring rate was 620's. I'm using my original column and going to modify it.

mustang289
Thanks Mustang289 Have you signed up on our forums? Not much for P.S. anymore. I got so fed up with it many years ago with the lines always hitting on my headers and the pump that always leaks.[:'(]

here are some progress pics!

new caster plates installed

installing the strut and installing the screw in clamp and coil springs

installing the pinto rack along with the clamp for the rack from aje

Since I went with the SN95 spindle assembly I put on the hub from a set of Cobra calipers and slot/ drilled rotors

if you do the front you might as well do the back right!

column modified

installing the D-shaft

had to go from a front sump to a Rear sump pan. We had to get a certain pick up tube to clear the stud girdle and nock a little dent in part of the stock 90's pan for it to clear along with weld in a bung for the oil drain from the turbo.

engine reinstall

header install... look at all that room. I could of installed the headers on the block then installed it but we didn't want to chip any of the paint.
