289 to 302 H.O. yes? no?
My friend just bought two 302 h.o. motors that came out of 93 fox bodies. He's keeping one and selling me the other one if I want to put it in my '66.
If I do switch I want to stay carbed because I just bought a new holley. Anyone know the power difference between the 302 ho and 289? Keep the stock 289 or swap with the 302 ho? Thanks

Your 289 block is much stronger than a newer 302, it can alsobe stroked out to a 347 and can accommodate a roller cam (just make sure you use a full base circle cam and link bar lifters, not those reto fit kits).
You could drop the 302 in stockwhile youbuild a real nice stroker out of the 289, that's what I would do anyway.

when i did the swap there was so much difference, it was like night n day. ive also found the 5.0 redlines higher

The 289 has much thicker webbing and mains whick makes it stronger. The 289 is a much strong block than the new 302 period. The only advantages the new 302 (block)has over the 289 is a one piece main seal and it will be cheaper to run a roller cam (as said before you can use a roller cam in the 289)As for the 200hp, you can makeyour stock shortblock do that easily.
