I currently have a c4, 351 with edelbrock top end kit, stock rear end. I am not looking for any type nitrous or superchargers either since it has hyper pistons. I was thinking of going with diff gears since I think this is the only thing left to do on my car. What type of gears should I get and how much is the price on new gears. I am a noob when it comes to gears by the way.

Wow, 600 bucks is alot. You could get an entire used center with select gear already installed for less than that.

 

so what would be an acceptable price range for new gears in an 8inch rear end?

 

try a junkyard, bobcats and mustang II had 8"s with 3.55 gears and locker

a good set of 8" gears will run you about 150-200$

 

I've seen complete pumpkins, with limited slip and your choice of gears for $670-800 on eBay. This is for an 8".

I would think gears would be ~$150-200 and install about the same. Total of not more than $450.

 

Setting up gears PROPERLY is time consuming. That's why it's not cheap.

 

Do you have exhaust? what about a shift kit in the tranny?

if you have the original 8" chances are most all of it is worn.
if you just throw some gears at it you'll prolly end up disappointed.

imo you should save up and do it properly

3.55 is a good choice to wake it up without destroying your wallet if you have to drive it on the highway anywhere and its good bang for buck performance increase.

 

Money is not a issue, plus my dad does the work himself-- The car is not going to be a highwaycar, so are these the best gears you can get?
