270-mega 381271 and break in the cam with an zink additive by comp cams, green dot, or vr1 racing 50wt oil

That's why I tell everyone to just get a freakin roller cam. The extra money spent is good insurance vs the possibility of cam failure(s). That and they last longer, make more power and get better mileage.

In a roller cam, something in the 270-280 duration range should give you your lope. The problem is it will move your power band up. With a 302, that is not such a big deal because it is capable of higher rpms. I do not know much about the thumper cams, but I think they are heavy on the exhaust duration, which I do not think will give you the lope you want. Rollercam in the middle range performance area shoud give you some lope. If you are crazy about it, you can go 290 or more but you will move your power band up into the 6s and 7s which make it unstreetable. Not so bad if you have a stick, but auto trannys are going to hate it and you will basically loose all your vacuum for power brakes and vacuum secondaries.

After looking at the responses on this site and doing a little research on my own i think i am going to pass on the cam right now. the engine runs fine except for my crank seal oil leak, so i have decided instead of tearing down the whole front of the engine i am just going to take out the radiator and fan and crank pulley and see if i can just replace the seal with the timing cover and water pump still on. someday i will take the engine out and do a nice re-build from top to bottom. thnx for the info though.
