cam journal lube
what would be better for cam journals during install. the packet of lube supplied with the cam says for lobes and distributer gear only so thats out.
would the comp cams break in lube work better on the journals than the zddp packed motor oil
or does it really matter since its all going to get splashed with motor oil as soon as you prime the oil pump and then spin the engine anyway

yeah thanks for the reply but that doesnt answer the question.
the lube supplied with the cam specifically says to use on lobes and gears,
the question is is motor oil or the comp cams break in lube part # cca-159 used to pour in crank cases better for the journals

Motor oil is fine for the journals, although I used moly assembly lube on mine. Theassembly lube sticks a little better than straight motor oil without being as thick as the cam lube.
I have been using this for well over thirtyfive years. Works great. I'm sure there are other quality assembly lubes out there but I am a creature of habit. http://www.permatex.com/products/aut...embly_Lube.htm

You should not put cam break-in lube on the bearing journals. It's so thick and sticky that it can clog up the oil ports and prevent the bearings from getting enough oil. That's what moly assembly lube is for.
Where can you get the cam lube? I have a cam that has never been run but no lube. Does the molybdenum (sp?) grease go by other names? Can you just buy moly grease? Inquiring minds want to know.
