Default pulleys

i just put a new Edelbrock water pump on my 289 but the crank pulley gets in the way of it. the pulleys are 6 groove w/ power steering and looking around ive only seen V-groove pulleys for sale. is the V-groove set up any worse? also are underdrive pulleys the way to go?

Hello, welcome to the forums

the "6 groove" pulley you speak of is actually a serpentine belt pulley. Serpentine belts were used much later than these engines. The original type of belt which was used on these engines was the V-belt. It will serve fine for your purpose. The serpentine belts are deesigned with 6 grooves (and a larger width) to have more surface area in contact with the pulley. This gives more friction which leads to less belt slip.

So, all you need to do is get rid of the serpentine one you have and replace it with a V-belt pulley.
