Default 65 Tranny Clunk

Recently, I went to a shop and the said that my hog head / rear differential needs to be replaced. They were able to turn my drive shaft in Park almost a full turn. So now, when I park on a hill, the car slides back about 6" or more. lol I know i have the get a new one at a junk yard somehow.

Anyways, Question is with my engine. I finally got all my kinks out of my engine and it sounds good to me. But When I place the car in drive or reverse, I get a clunk sound. With the way it is idling now. Any idea how to ease the clunk sound. Maybe raise the idle? Just brain storming.

Any help would be great!

The clunck is the slack in your drivetrain from that worn out third member. When you put it in gear (I assume you have an auto), the converter will put pressure on the drive train. The only way I could see to prevent this would be to lower the idle, not raise it, but the clunck will still happen when you hit the gas.

Speaking ofidle. what is a good idle? 500 / 450 RPMs? I think I am set at 500 right now.
