Default Opinions on replacement starter

My starter has been going for a while now so I've decided to replace it. I'm looking at a mini high-torque model on ebay, although I'm only running at 9:1 right now I'd like the option toup that to 10:1, also the smaller starters are supposed to be less susceptible to heat and I'm hoping that the high-torque version will be more durable than the standard one I have in there now. Here's the link for the auction:

Is there anything I need to be wary of, I've heard that I may need to have a 157 tooth flywheel, is there anyway to check short of counting all the teeth. I have a302 and C4 out of a 1971 Torino. Thanks for the help.

I ran a late model mini like that on my 302, they last longer, start easier and don't heat soak, not to mention you can actually get to the top bolt easily. And they weigh less.

I have a PowerMaster PMGR starter in my 331 and I love it. It kicks up much faster than my old starter did and I can install it without my arm muscles crapping out on me halfway through the process.

That said, there isn't a real need for one. OE style starters work just fine, and they aren't really as susceptible to heat soak as most people seem to think. Mustang headers don't get as close to the starter as some other cars (ie. Mopars and GM's). Usually if you're having heat soak issues the starter just needs to be replaced.

Personally, I wouldn't buy an electrical component like that off ebay unless you know for sure who made it.It's just like buying from different parts stores; I'm willing to spend $20 more at Napa for an alternator rather than get a cheap pos from Kragen or Autozone. I bought a PowerMaster starter because they have a very good reputation.

Yeah, my starter has been hit-or-miss for a while and the parts place I go to won't warranty 'electrical' components. Also they were charging more (plus a core charge)for the standard starter than what theFord1.4kW PMGR starter was with shipping, retro wiring harnessand a one year warranty on ebay, so I bought it. I'll just be happy to have the car starting reliably now, if this starter dies after a year then maybe I'll look more carefully before I buy but Ford OEM will be fine for now. I'll post after I get it installed incase there are any problems, Rare Electrical also has a pretty big web storeso it'll be nice to knowif they are reputable.
