The c 4 auto sucks. I hate that transmission. I drove my 65 with it in it for two years and rebuilt it twice. It can't handle any power. Not to mention how little fun interstate driving is with a 3 speed automatic.

How much power are you throwing at that C4? That is a very sturdy tranny for an automatic on vintage mustangs. Maybe you just have a lemon, but yeah. I definitely prefer the standard trannies over the autos because I have more control regarding RPM before a shift.

While it's true that a manual can be more exciting, I'm going to side with Soaring on this one... You've either got a lemon or don't know how to treat an automatic. Of the vintage Mustangs I've owned, 3 of them have had C4s, and only one of those required a rebuild (with 25 years of service under its belt at the time). They've all stayed dry as a bone and never required a bit of attention. I have to disagree with you about their power-handling as well. My '66 fastback is no slouch in the horsepower department, and my stock C4 will still chirp the tires going into 2nd almost every time. Never slips, groans, or lets me down.
