Default Steering Wheel size..1966 Pony/GT Wheel

I just got finished installing a wheel I bought at carlisle,pa car showlast week...It looks great...Its a pony wheel....When I went to put the old pony wheel in the box the new on came out of,I noticed that the old wheel is slightly bigger and it didnt fit into the styrofoam packing circle.
It is probably about a 1/2 inch bigger.

Is this normal, because it is a after market part? or did I buy the wrong size?

By the way the one I bought is by KSR (k.s reproduction corporation)....it came in a white box....when I was at the show someone told me to buy the one in the white box...not the one in a plain brown box...at CJ pony parts booth they had the on es in the brown box and the quality was cheap...you could bend the wheel with a little bit of effort (pushing down with one handand pulling up with the other).
Thanks Scott

I am not able to post pixs-the new wheel is just smaller then the old one-they otherwise look exactly the same in detail-the old one looks 42 years old and the new one is fresh from the box. Thanks Scott
