What method are you using to strip your car? I'm getting ready to do this soon myself and I've been told the best method is to use aircraft stripper... and a big d/a sander.

a $12 6" DA sander from harbor freight. and a TON of disks. i used 9 yesterday, like 4 today, and im not even halfway done. so probably like 30+ paper disks.

i havnt bought any aircraft stripper yet but ive used some paint stripper. the jellified version of laquer thinner. i used it on the door. i was about to buy a soda blaster but i found out the soda/media wouldve cost WAY too much.

Thanks for the reply, I bought a 100$ d/a awhile back and I've stocked up on disks. Do you use 80 grit? I'm hoping this will be the fun part of my restoration:P Sand it all down and get some fresh primer on it. I know when I did my engine compartment I used the aircraft stripper and the paint/undercoating could litterally be rubbed off with a towel. I also sand blasted it... bad mistake. Sand got everywhere and even in my other car which was parked a good distance away.

im using 100 cause they didnt have 80 at ace.

i also had some 40 but it seemed to do work just as good as the 100. oh and i also use my drill with wire wheels a lot. like on the curves and in the drip rail and rear tail panel corners underneath. i think theyre like $1.50 each at OSH. i bought like 6.

make sure the window is up. or out.

theres a screw in the end of the door for the thrumb part of the handle and theres a 3/8" nut on the other end of the handle on the inside of the door. get a flashlight a peek inside and you'll see it.

make sure the linkage is disconnected before you try ripping it out. theyre special clips that push, then rotate and lock the linkage in place. so just rotate the clip off the linkage and pull the linkage straight out of the handle.
