Hi, I just bought an Edelbrock 1405 (600cfm) for my '66 302 with stock intake. Old carb is ford 4300
I have a few questions :
1. Choke : Is it possible to install/fabricate a manual choke ?
2. Accelerator linkage : The installationmanual mentions a special ford linkage and a special plate. Is this really necessary, it seems to me that the acceleratorrod connects to the carb as is.
3. Are there any other problems I might encounter
Does anyone have any experience with this change-over?

I hope not to get too much experience on this one. I'm working with a timelimit this time. It needs to be ready and reliable by next week.

 

I installed a 1406 with electric choke this winter so I'll answer to my experience,
1. No idea I bought an electric choke
2. The special kit is not needed for at least a 65 or 66 unless you have a newer transmission with a shift down cable.The accelerator rod will connect directly to the included carb linkage.
3. I had no problems with my install other than getting some dirt in the idle needles, which caused the carb to flood out.
The carb comes with good instructions and a great DVD to help with the install and any trouble shooting.

It would be easier to just wire up the electic choke and let it do it's thing.

 

i'm not sure if the carb that you got has electronic or manual choke. Can you clarify that?

 

The 1405 only has a manual choke. I have to hook it by next week, so I don't have the time to order an electric choke. So for now I'll trie to install a wire to operate the manual choke.
I was just wondering if anyone has done this fora '66, no need te invent things twice.

 

Holley carbs suck. But they do make a nice sturdy choke cable that will work with the EDL carb.
