Default Adhesive Letters

My 68 trunk lid has no MUSTANG letters. I found a set of adhesive ones in the trunk, along with the original letters with the posts that go into holes in the lid. Guess I'm blind but I can't find any holes. New paint job but when looking from the back side of the lid I can't find the holes. Do these adhesive letters stay on?

I've seen the letters with the sticky back fall off within a week without it ever leaving the garage. I've seen the letters have the sticky backing removed, a 3M double face tape used (both on the fenders and vinyl roof) and not fall off after 2 years on a daily driver. He ran out of the 3M tape and had to use some 3M spray adhesive on 2 of the letters which also stayed on fine.

I don't know if the sticky backing was just bad or what but I know 3M has some really great tapes and adhesives.

3m make's an emblem adhesive. You apply it to the back of the emblem and hold pressure on it for 5-10 mins then let it set for a day. I've seen people use it and they have never fell off and when you go to remove them they will rip the paint off with it... it bond's that good.

Guess that beats trying to drill the holes in the right place and use the old letters.

Yeah all the 3M adhesives are good. Sometimes it pays to go with a known brand name. Most newer vehicles use the adhesive emblems too. As long as the letters a good quality, use some 3M stuff and you shouldn't have any problems. Clean the area with alcohol first to get it clean.
