Peel Away
I was reading about how to get rid of gunk under our cars because I am going to be stripping the underside of my 65 this summer and put it back to factory specs. Well, I know all about brushing, scraping, heating the gunk with a torch and all, but found this process interesting. HERE What method have you guys found to be the easiest way to strip the gunk from the undercarriage in preparation for painting?
Wow - that stuff seems to really work! But folks - please don't work with your car simply up on a jack (as this tutoral appears to show). Always use stands! As for cleaning the belly, I've just used Simple Green and a wire brush in the past. It takes off years of build-up and black Krylon covers a multitude of sins... But I've never come anywhere close to that clean. Glen - looks like we might have found that joint project to work on this summer!
I didn't notice the jack thing, because I was concentrating on the cleaning process.
But, yeah, I use 6 jack stands whenever I work underneath the old girl. I replaced the rear leaf springs last summer, and used the same 6 stands to do the job.
Well Dan, if you can venture out to west Texas this summer, I could use the help.
Heck, I'll even furnish the beer.

You dog you, you are working me.
When I retire next December, you and I will get together in Texas and do some joint projects. I guarantee it. I have a brother in Houston with a garage. I also have a brother in west Texas with a huge car barn that we built a few summers ago. I will be looking in the hill country this summer for a retirement home, and a workshop will be on the top of my list. We will get together, count on it. HERE is a pic of Old Yeller in the new barn. That pic was taken a few summers ago just after we finished the barn. Since then, I replaced the rear leaf springs so now she doesn't sag in the butt so much.
