Default window problem, need help please.

hello i got a question but don't know exactly how to ask it. I was working on my car installing door coupling, and the window rollors and when i was opening and closing the window I saw this happening (the yellow box)

the window is lifting from the metal. I guess im trying to ask, has anyone had this happen before or knows of this happening and how can i fix it. I just ordered some parts and it looks like I'm going to have to call to order something else. Was hoping to save for some rims.
Hopefully this pics will help.

If you take that channel out and sand blast the inside of it to remove the rust you could probably use window urethane to fix it. Just fill the channel with uretane and push the glass into it and 24 hours later it should fix the problem. I am not saying this is the correct way just a possible fix.

those windows look pretty rough as is. Are you planning on restoring the windows? If you are I would do what has been said with the sand blasting, but dont jimmy rig it with the urethane, do it right after the sand blasting, get the proper glass tape.Over all I would look for some new rails with out as much damage.

rst08ierney, What exactly does glass tape look like. my windows are riveted in so I have never had to repair this kind of break. Is more of a friction deal holding it in or is a sticky tape. It looks in the pics like a rubber gasket in the channel is that actually glass tape?

I just restored mine and thought it was a gasket my self, little did I know its called glass tape. It looks like a gasket because its so old and hard. Glass tape just sits in the channel and the glass is pushed hard into the channel. The excess tape gets cut off with an exacto.

NPD carrys the glass tape, the item number is 214A10-1

Glass tape is 2-3in wide and looks like a roll of tape, but its a much thicker rubber.

thanks rst08tierney, I think I rather do it that way with the glass tape. So you recomend me to get new rails, would that be like right away or put the glass tape and save up for some new rails instead of rims. Would you happen to know who sells them and about how much the are? Going to check in my catologes to see who sells them and how much they are. Do i put the glass tape in the channel and then just push the window into it?

I would see what some light sanding and some black rustoleum paint would do first. You need to fix that problem asap or the glass might get beat up, cut or break. As everything goes do it right the first time. You will need a good flat head to get the old tape out of the old rail. The old tape should be very brittle and it should not be a problem.Make sure to save a piece incase the new tape is notwide enough, you may need to take that old piece into a glass shop to get the right thickness of the tape.

I would not buy a new rail becuase they new ones are knock offs made in some other place then here. (you know how they think, if it looks like a window it must be a window, right?) Look on ebay, I bought my drivers side rail in good condition for $35 plus shipping. I only needed the light surface scratch and a shot of paint for that show quality look.

**VERY IMPORTANT** when you are placing the glass back in the channel, do not push HARD from the top, I have heard stories of people shattering glass and original glass does not come cheap. The same goes for you quarter and vent windows.
