what shocks for a 65
They do sell Bilsteins, check Mustangdepot.com or Maierracing.com, They have a street package, a sport package, and a race package. I would Go with some bilsteins and new coil springs, maybe new leafs and you should have an awesome suspension going for a dd.
cool ... i got some reading to do haha.
yea i dont expect it to ride like a 98 camaro, i guess i just used that as its a pretty stiff set up the way my dad has it and im used to that. to me my monte carlo has to soft of suspension.
probably going to read up on the edelbrocks & search for some bilsteins.
how hard is it to change out the coil springs? ive done struts before but those you pull off the car while they are under load and change out the strut from the spring.

the first time doing the springs can be confusing. but after like the 4th or 5th time its nothin
. i pulled mine out tons of times cause i kept cutting em.
basically, jack the car up, pull the wheel off
remove the shock.
if its jacked up it will let the drum hang low so the spring has room to squeeze out.
get a spring compressor, you might be able to rent one, but if not theyre $50.
either make a plate to fit around the 3 bolts on the top of the shock tower, or buy the one made for it thats mentioned in the manual.
kinda like this:

and this (i have this one):

you slide the bolt down the plate with a hole in it and atach only the hook with the threads on it.
then just crank away and when you get it high enough, you pull the spring perch out.
after the perch it out, loosen the spring and itll fall right out.

I've heard some horror stories about the arm-style compressors. Either make a plate style compressor or pick up one of the compressors that use the shock bolt holes in the ring perch.
Plate style compressors are far superior and much safer. I've heard from a couple people who've had arm-style compressors slip or break on them. IIRC, Daze is one of those people. I expect he'll chime in at some point here.
that doesnt seem to bad, pretty much like taking the spring off a strut except you have to do it on the car ( im lucky enough that back home i can just borrow a pneumatic strut compressor from the parts store i worked at in college )
might have to look into changing the springs and all. Im just not sure how far i want to dig into the car this year.

On the '66 in my signature, I have KYB GR2s on the rear.I kept the Gas-a-just up front. TheGas-a-just work well with the soft front springs. The rear Gas-a-just were harsh, and really limited the handling on rough roads (back end would step out hard on rough corners). I went from `0.8 G lateral driving on the ragged edge, to 0.99G lateral very comfortably. Don't seem to fade when hot, like I had expected either.
GR2s are cheap. If you are on a budget, they would get you by, and definitely be an improvement.
