Oh, I remember that thread. That doesn't look like a lifter to me, heh. I think it's time to tear down the engine and figure out what shape it's in.

Well I can see all of the lifters in their holes. So that rules out a rod pushing through a lifter, which seems weird looking at how dense these lifters are.

Time to phone a friend and pull the engine. Thanks guys for the help/advise.

That piece is definately cast Iron, so it may indeed be from the block. The shiny ring around the edge looks like something was pushing down on it really hard and spinning, until it finally punched on through. Honestly, I wouldn't chance it. I would pull it out, and find out where it came from. Besides, it has a lot of sludge in it, and could use a good cleaning.

Pull it apart for a rebuild, it needs to be torn down so you can see what you have. Looks like either piston to valve interferance, valve float or coil bind, or a combination. Those are VERY bent pushrods.

I remember that thread now too. That piece look to me like a .....valve head. That might explain the pushrods.

Well I got the engine out. The bad part is I have tranny fluid all over the garage floor. Long story, don't ask[:@]. The other bad thing is the engine stand I bought does not fit my block. Flippin 390 is a 1/2" too wide to be able to bolt the 2 lower arms to the bottom is the block. I can get 3 to find a place but I can't put the full weight of the engine on only 3 arms.

Any other BB or FE people out there run into this? I am on a search now for an engine stand that will hold my ENGINE!! lol.
