Default anti-theft

So I had a bad scare last week. I got out of work to find a sherrif's deputy in the parking lot behind where I parked Her Highness. Guess who ran? Anyway, the car NEXT to mine got stolen (don't know what kind). My husband wants to put in a new steering wheel that is removable. It's the only thing we can think of to use without changing a whole buttload of things (locks, wiring, etc). Does anyone have any ideas, comments or suggestions? BESIDES leaving her in the garage?

Ya they have battery kill switches that go right on your battery. You'd have to open your hood to toggle everytime though. My friend has a 1966 oldsmobile 442, with a switch hidden in the ashtray that you have to flip before starting the car. That's another idea. Or possibly the club. That could be enough to deter theifs.

Pro thieves will steal it no matter what you do. Get a good insurance policy. However, kids who don't know what they are doing will be deterred by a kill switch or the Club.

I know this might be a lot more expensive, but would an Alarm System work? I am going to put about 1000 dollars into my stereo this summer, and I know that people will be looking in it, and with the cd-changer and subs, it's going to be a hot item to break into. I know a guy who works for Viper, but would it work on a classic car?

Here is a simple 2 wire alarm system that Sacramento Mustang says will work on your classic Mustang. http://www.sacramento-mustang.com/cgi-bin/cart.pl

True dat. I have an alarm system on my SWMBO's 4x4 Blazer here on the island and I get the buzzer thing going off almost weekly from kids trying to steal gas from me. An alarm system is the best protection you can have save staying up all night and shooting the perps.

Yeah, locked doors keep otherwise honest people out of your car, but a good thief can get in your locked car in about 32 seconds. And, they usually destroy the locks, or use a slim Jim.
