carb/intake option
Hi all,
I know this is about the millionth time someone asking.
I have a stock 289 with long tube headers and flowmaster 40 exhaust.
currently 2barrel autolite 2100 with stock intake.
I'm thinking about weiand8124 and road demon525 (not JR) carb
does that sound like a plan?
I won't throw in new heads at any stage soon (at least not until the ones I have fry and they are still working good)
But i might put in a new cam withing the next year and decided for the compcams xe256H (31-234-3) (the full kit with springs etc), at that time I'll be exchanging the rod bolts just for the sake of it. I don't want a high revving engine as I want to keep her as long as possible. So nice pull between idle and 4000-4500max would be great

The plan sounds okay as long as youunderstand that you will not realize the full benefit of the cam/carb/intake until you upgrade the cylinder heads.
In my opinion.... and I know it's hard to do when you're working on a budget.... install ALL of the upgrades at the same time. Pulling the engine apart once instead of 2 or 3 times will save you time and money.
Buy your intake/carb/cam now and sit them on the workbench. Looking at the new boxes with the performance parts inside is an incredible motivational factor for saving another $1500 for cylinder heads.
Good Luck,
Dave

I think that setup will be just fine for you
If you want to get the most out of your stock heads, you can take them off and port-match the exhaust. You'd be amazed at how much material you can take out to free up exhaust flow, which is the major bottleneck with stock heads.

When I have em off, I might just have the seats replaced as well
