Default Alignment

This is for my DD but I took it be aligned and I have to different brands of tyres on the front, the guy said you we can't align cars with different name tyres, you need new ones. At this point I left as to me the alignment can be set with 2 different name tyres it may differ slightly with the different name tyres, (possible different tread depths)but not significantly. As the alignment to me is all suspension geometry, amI correct here?

he is full of it. alignment is based off the spindle angles, and the tires have nothing to do with it.

I'm sure he can physically do the alignment, but he might have a policy of not doing such work on a car with two different tires on the front. It is also most accurate to do an alignment on new tires instead of used ones.

Having two different tires on the front is... uh.. not smart.

I did front end alignments way back in '76. Obviously tires have improved, however, a difference in the front tires can cause to car to pull or drift a bit.

The guy just wanted to guarantee his work.
As Titan said, he could align the car and just issue a disclaimer.

Sounds like he was just trying to get some more money.

Hi Paddy,
In Germany both wheels on one axle have to be same size and make and model. otherwise you won't pass NCT/MOT or whatever the test is called.
In Ireland they only have to be same size
I'm not a fan of different tires in the front, sometimes the car pulls to the side then when rolling resistances are different.
Or when braking. So maybe the mechanic just backed his ***.
physically he could have done it, but he don't want you coming back and complain ...
