Default wet sanding

what are the pros and cons of wet sanding primer. I am wet sanding my engine bay for the final time and I have to say that I like doing it dry better.

PROS-water washes away sanding dust and paper doesnt load up as fast

CONS-water can get trapped and cause surface rust or make a bigger mess.

I wan't really wanting to have any water on the car until it was painted. I will go back to dry sanding then. I did half the bay with wet with 400 grit. made one heck of a mess in the driveway as well. I just didn't know if there was a reason everone recomends wet sanding. This is only the second car that I will have painted.

I prefer dry 400 myself. sealer will hide 400 scratches just fine. If you are doing wet sanding I would not go any finer than 600. You still need enough scratch for the paint to properly bite.

the paint shop told me 400. I am being more picky with this than I did on my truck. I see places that have sanding marks on my truck. But it goes out in the woods alot so i dont care. they are beauty marks.

I am preparing my whole car with 400 dry. I think brand also makes a difference. I use the 3M automotive product.

I also prefer 3m paper when I am getting to the final stages of prep.

That is also A good paper. We stock 3m at the shop I work at so I just buy a pack from there when I need it. And yes i actually am honest enough to purchase the paper and not just take it.
