1970 Kickdown cable/rod?
Does anyone know if a 289/c-4 requires a kickdown cable or a rod for the automatic transmission?
Mine never had one and I'm not at home to look.
I need to order parts so they arrive whenI am home.

It's not the engine that needs the kickdown, the transmission needs it. If you have a C-4 then you can get by without one, but I would hook it up. You won't damage a C-4 without one. What it does is drops the transmission into the next lower gear if you mash the throttle, like when passing on the freeway or similar. You can still grab the handle and downshift it manually if you like, but the kickdown will do it automatically for you.
If you decide to hook it up I would ditch the rod and go with a cable setup personally. Summit has the cable kickdown cable setups.

Now if talking about an AOD, it is not just a kickdown, but rather a throttle valve and does need to be hooked up or the AOD won't last.

Thanks, My car has a C-4 with a manual reverse valve body shift kit and I shift it manually all the time. I just want something the girlfriend can drive without having to shift.
If it has a manual valve body then I don't think the kickdown will do anything anyway. A manual valve body is meant to be shifted manually by the driver for all gear changes.
