Default power options

I have been talking to my engine builder regarding supercharging my car with a Paxton unit (302W 65 coupe) and he is trying to pursuade me to turbo it. He has a twin turbo 67 that is one beast and he reckons it is the best way to go. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of each system. It is for a street car that will go down the track in a straight line a bit and when I say street car it is only driven on weekends when I get time off work.

Any recommendations where I can get kits for either system as well. Cheers

i always preferred the idea of the paxtons because of the history. I like the idea of superchargers because the power delivery is more linear and less "rush". But my dd is a turbo subaru so i am not anti turbo by any means.

I think a lot will come down to what power you want to generate and if your engine is up for it or in need of rebuild/ strengthening/ dropping compresssion etc.

this post ought to generate a pretty healthy discussion either way

I'm also in favor of superchargers. No, they're not as efficient, but throttle response is usually a lot better (a big deal for me), and like Aussie said, power is generally more linear. Not to mention it's a lot easier to install a paxton as opposed to a turbo (or turbos).

My cars motor is fairly warm and under 10000 miles on it, I will have to lower the compression either way. I like the supercharger personally but am will to take into consideration turbo, just need more information to make my mind up before taking the plunge

richard and dustin (both post under cprstreetmachines) - they're the guys on this forum with the most turbo experience.

I'd be interested to hear the difference incosts to set up a single or even twin paxton versus single or twin turbo. would you even run a single turbo on a v8???

what sort of boost is suitable for a street v8? do you need intercooler for a relatively low level of boost?

Im no expert but i have a good friend that knows a lot about turboing a car and from what i've heard from him is turbos are perfect if you want the extra power when you want it and at the same time perfect if you still want to retain some gas mileage. because they dont kick in until higher RPMs with more exhaust flow, you'll have the same gas mileage as before in lower RPMs. Theyre good for hp and tq in the high RPM band while superchargers are good for more throughout like said above. Turbos also do not steal any power from your engine as they do not rely on your engine's, for lack of a better word, "spinning ability" :P as a supercharger does with its pulley setup directly to the engine's pullies. The turbo only uses the exhaust. Plus, with a turbo, backpressure is not much of an issue so a high flow exhaust will not harm high end power but you still want some restriction seeing as how the turbos are not used in the low RPM band. Smell what Im steepin' in?

Either way, they both sound freakin awesome! Oh yeah, and if space or heat build up is an issue in the engine bay, turbos can be remotely located farther down on the exhaust system.
