Default What Temperature?

Hey there everyone. I have a 1965 Mustang Coupe that has a 289 and I was wondering how hot is too hot to run the engine.

I just installed a 3-row radiator this morning and I am still getting up into the 210 range, it's weird. I plan on installing the fan shroud next.

FOR THE RECORD - I tried using the search feature like I always do but NOTHING would come back on several different searches. Is the search down or something?

Thanks!

Get the fan shrouded ASAP. 210 is not a good nromal operating temperature.

When do you get to the 210 degress. The answer to that may help identify what the problem is. ARe you moving or stationary. 210 is a little hot

Let me clarify... if your normal cruising operating temp is hovering around 210, you've got a problem. If the open road driving temp is below 180 and it gets up to 210 when you're stuck in traffic, you're fine.

Hope this helps,

Dave

210 isnt really that hot, modern cars are run way hotter to increase fuel economy.

if its not detonating and dieseling after you cuto it off your probably fine, where is your timing set at might need to advance it slightly. when you advance it you gain mpg, smoothness at idle, lower temps, more power earlier although you lose a little top end

I just ran it on the freeway and I reached about 210 and when I stopped it hit about 220.

I did notice a screeching sound near the water pump at bottom end revs. I thought it used to be the belt but now I'm not to sure. I'm not really sure where to go from here....

Any and all advice is welcomed at this point. One thing is for certain, the 2-row to 3-row did absolutely nothing to help with cooling. This leads me to believe that it's a problem somewhere else.

By the way, I also have a 6 blade fan on this bad boy.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!!!!!

Are you sure you have a good temperature gauge? If so, you have internal problems in the passages and they need cleaned. Maybe someone ran water instead of antifreeze. That will cause it to stop up. Let us know what you find.

Temp gauge is working. I know this because I put my IR Thermometer near the sending unit and it read 212. How do I clear out the passage ways?
