Looking at ordering new leafs and coils & thinking about the following. Figure I'll get them on now so they will settle over the next year before I order the Shelby 15" wheels/tires and it hits the road.
[ol][*]LEAF SPRINGS GRAB-A-TRAK 4-1/2 LEAF STD EYE 65/73[*]FRONT COIL SPRINGS PAIR 67/70 6 CYL & 289 V8[*]LEAF SPRING SHACKLE KIT 65/73 MUSTANG;71/72 COUGAR[/ol](Need to leafs for my 2003 Exploder Sport also.. Wish they were only $179.95 . Might get them re-arced instead and an extra bottom load leaf added.)
Want the rear slightly stiffer than original so decided on the 4-1/2 leaf. Have heard a number of people here say the 5-leaf were too stiff and not what I want for a DD. Don't want to drop the front or rear so sticking with the Standard Eye on the leafs and going with the stock coils for a 289. Will be doing the UCA drop. New shackle kit since I know the bushings will need to be replaced anyways.
Any opinions on this? Anything else I should order at the same time? We'll be pulling the entire front suspension next month to inspect. I'll more than likely end up ordering a new complete kit if needed but want to look at it first.
Leaving later this week for Canada to work on our car until August!
Mostly body work as we got 95% of the sheet metal repairs done in April. Received the Ivy Gold upholstery (looks so nice!), etc from NDP Friday so I'll be doing the seats on a weekend this trip as well. Heated seats to boot for those cold winter mornings! Trip ends with a trip to Moncton, NB for The Eagles concert Aug 2nd!

I just put a pair of M+'s 4-1/2 leaf mid-eyes on my 67 and I love them. They're nice and firm, but with the Edelbrock shocks I put on at the same time they ride really smooth. I think they'd probably be on the stiff side for a daily driver if I hadn't swapped out my KYB Gas-A-Justs, but I probably still would've done it
I'm definitely glad I didn't get the 5 leafs, they would've been too stiff even for me, and I like a nice firm ride. Going around corners on crappy roads with that stiff a suspension and you're not going to get any traction at all, just bounce.

Yeah I'm going with the Edelbrock shocks as well. She isn't gonna be racing it at all and 75% of her driving is a straight shot up I-295 to work. Everyone says the stock setup of a classic mustang is pretty soft/sloppy which is why I'm looking at the 4-1/2 leaf. Should be no reason to add a rear sway bar either with the stiffer 4-1/2 leafs. The stock coils in the front with either a 1 or 1-1/8 sway bar should offset the additional stiffness in the rear to equal things out.. I think.
If I'm wrong in this train of thought please correct me.

Definitely no rear sway bar. I might put one on mine when I finish fixing up the front end, but I'll have to experiment and see if I even need one, and I bet I drive harder than your wife
I have a 15/16" on the front of my 67 and I think it's perfect. More than that is probably going to tighten it up a little too much. 1-1/8 is definitely overkill.
While you have everything apart, I'd strongly recommend doing the Shelby drop. It'll really help keep the car flat while cornering and will keep the tires flat on the road as well. An export brace should be considered mandatory, and a m/c bar isn't a bad idea either.

Yeah she doesn't drive hard at all. Myself.. well thats another thing lol. She'll be the primary driver though.
The Shelby drop will be done. I'll be adding a stainless export brace and a black curved m/c bar. Don't understand why they don't make a SS m/c bar to match. I've ordered 2 chrome m/c bars from NPD and both are so scratched up they are unusable! Looks like someone took vise grips and a file to them both. Paid for 1 and when I complained they shipped out a 2nd no charge but it was almost as bad as the first.
I have the original front sway bar which I guess could be cleaned up, powercoated and new bushings. I forget the size of the originals though.. 3/4"? Not sure if the original or stepping up would be better.
Thanks.

The originals are tiny and near-useless. I'd have to guess at 5/8's for a non-GT. When I pulled mine off, I discovered I could literally bend it in half with my hands, that's how puny it was. I'd recommend a 7/8" or 15/16". Generally when you go larger than that you need to consider adding a rear bar to compensate for the stiffened front end.

Thanks. I'll look at the 7/8" or 15/16" then instead of the stock bar. I knew the originals were small but didn't realize they were that weak.
