Default I SCREWED up!

So i went to put the rear valance and quarter panel extensions on to see how the new quarters i welded in line up. well they don't!!!! There are issues around the caps and the valance doesn't reach all the way across to meet up with the quarters. there is about a 1" gap between the valance and quarter on each side.

does this mean i need to cut the panels off and refit them? i think i know the answer......
suck.

Is the valance a repro peice? They historically come up a little 'short' when fitted.
If you have an old stock bumper I would use that as a gauge personally

Mabey it would be easiest to cut a chunk out of the center of the old valance and splice it to the new one.
Most of the welds would be covered by the plate anyway.

I'm sorry, but RULE #1 when replacing body panels (especially quarter panels) is to ensure fitment of attaching panels/pieces before finish weldingthe replacementpanel. Your new quarters should have been loosely tacked in place while you ensured the end caps, deck lid, bumper and rear valance were all going to fit/line up properly.

I don't see anyway around it. It's time to start breaking your new welds.

Sorry, but you already knew the answer anyway,

Dave

I think I would closely examine my options before I started cutting anything off.....

If the "fit issue" is something that wont show, and wont cause any issues other than the valance coming up a little short, you can bet your *** that I would not cut the fendersoff to fix it..... No way Jose!

I would chalk up the experience to "I wont make that mistake again" and move on!

That is not far off of the way the 1/4 extensions came from the factory. Usually if they line up real nice someone has worked the crap out of them. The valance you can just extend the ends. That is how we did my fathers. It required close to an inch per side.
