I SCREWED up!
You need to do it right or FOREVER this will be an eye sore every time you look at the car. Its not too bad +1 on the over hang BUT its your ride. I know there is no way I could live with that. Its better to do it now before its too late
how is the fit of the cap to the trunklid? and the fit of the quarter to the trunklid? the caps can be fixed by slightly enlarging the holes. the valance doesnt look to hot but looks workable
I had the opposite problem with mine. When I got a new rear valance I had to cut the ends off mine. The mounting points were not there either so I welded the valance on. Whoever put new quarters on my car wasn't paying attention to fit.

i definitely couldn't stand it if it wasn't right... i want it to look good.
the other problem is that the peak of the panel isn't quite right either where it meets the cap... what a lesson to learn but this is the first time I've done this!!!!
i think i might take out the welds at the back of the panel and behind the wheel well and see what kind of movement i can get without cutting the whole panel off.
i also like the idea of cutting the valence in half to get it flush and then welding a patch in the middle of the valence.
thoughts?

Sorry, I just can not leave this here!
I get a red "x" for the pictures, so I cant see what is being talked about, but IF the "mistake" is virtually invisible except for the fit of the valance then screw "doing it right"....
Some things are worth the effort, some things ain't.... If the difference here is "well eventhough no one else can tell it is wrong, I will know", then thatIS NOTenough reason to cut the fenders off....
I really doubt that you will have some NASCAR tech guy drop by with some "car templates" to make sure everything is exactly where it should be.... if this tech guy does come by with some templates you should kick his ***...
Sorry, but in my eyes thatwould just bedumb....

Ah, you need to see the pictures.
It looks like crap due to the very large gap between the end of the quarter panel and the end of the valance. My 14 year old daughter would notice it immediately.

well i've been working on it. no pics yet... what i did was cut the welds along the rear of the panel and underneath it to the wheel well.
with the valence on, i have been able to massage the panel (if you can actually massage with a 2x4
)
now the gap is about a 1/4 inch.
i also had someone tell me they tacked a 1/8" welding rod onto the quarter where it meets the valence and they were able to shape it and get the gap closed. i plan to try it.
don't worry JMD i didn't cut off the whole panel!!!!!

Of course if the trunk lid does not fit right, or if the difference in width is discernible with the naked eye, then something should be done, but IMO, (again I cant see the pictures)I have to imagine that the difference in width won't show once the valance is modified to fill the gap.
I suppose a person who has a lot more spare time than I do may want to repair this issue "just so they know it is right",,,, but I don't have that kind of time...

Dude my stock factory caps didnt fit much better than that for the life of the car.
I just ran my cut off wheel down the section of the fender behind where the cap meets and bolted the cap back on.
Checked it with the trunk closed. Then I opened the trunk to get those adjustments. Once I was happy with the trunk to cap line I just pushed the fender out to match the cap and tacked it in place. the fit like a glove now.
JMD can tell you bend that valence it will fit.
I used zip self tappers across the top and used a wood block and hammer. until it fit.
There is no way unless the door line is out I would cut that fender back off.
But thats just me.
My basis from a client of mine Must unlimited guys were talking to me about my ride and I said im not happy with the gaps and fitment plan on working them until they fit right. He said what makes you so special? Ford didnt get it right when it was new! lol
